When the judge sentenced the juvenile in 1996, he promised to stand behind him if he stayed out of trouble.
But almost 15 years after his crimes, the ex-offender came to the attention of immigration authorities in a system that makes no allowances for rehabilitation. Now the judge is trying to keep his side of the bargain.
