Saving the giant panda

Tragic accidents can befall animals in any setting at a zoo, in a forest.

But there is a special responsibility due to animals when humans hold them in captivity. Highly endangered animal's best chance of long-term survival comes not from zoos but from extensive environmental stewardship.

Baby Red Panda Born at National Zoo

A baby red panda was born at the National Zoo in Washington, DC on June 16.

The newborn is the first red panda to be born at the zoo in 15 years.
